EPF Reimbursement

EPF Reimbursement for Manufacturing Units in Gujarat

EPF Reimbursement

Hiring employees comes with its own set of costs — and the employer’s contribution towards EPF is one that most manufacturing businesses simply absorb without question.

What many do not realise is that under Gujarat’s Aatmanirbhar Scheme, this contribution is partially reimbursable for a defined period. It is designed to encourage formal employment generation — and it often goes unclaimed simply because businesses do not know it applies to them.

How It Works

Under the Aatmanirbhar Gujarat Scheme for MSMEs, the government reimburses the employer’s EPF contribution made for new employees in eligible manufacturing units.

  • Reimbursement Amount: 100% of the Employer’s Statutory Contribution
  • Monthly Ceiling: Capped at 12% of basic salary + DA or ₹1,800 per month per employee — whichever is lower
  • Duration: Available for a period of 10 years from the date of commercial production

Critical Compliance Requirements

  • New Employment Generation: Applicable only for “New Employees”—those who did not have a Universal Account Number (UAN) prior to joining your unit.
  • Incremental Growth: For units undergoing expansion, the subsidy applies to the incremental employee count added after the expansion.
  • The 85% Mandate: You must ensure that at least 85% of your total workforce consists of local residents of Gujarat.
  • Regular Filings: This is not a “set and forget” benefit. It requires quarterly claim filings with the District Industries Centre (DIC) supported by EPF payment receipts.

Where Businesses Miss Out

Most companies are already paying EPF regularly — but they never check whether reimbursement applies to their unit, or they assume the process is too complex to manage. In many cases it is simply not tracked consistently, and the benefit lapses quarter by quarter without anyone noticing.

How We Help

We assess whether your unit qualifies, set up the tracking process, and handle the filings so nothing slips through.

This includes:

  • Eligibility check under the Aatmanirbhar Gujarat Scheme
  • Employee UAN verification and headcount tracking
  • Quarterly documentation and EPF receipt management
  • DIC claim filing and follow-up until reimbursement is processed

A Practical Advantage

For a manufacturing unit with 50 new employees, the reimbursement can amount to several lakhs annually — recurring for up to 10 years. It is not a one-time benefit. It is a steady reduction in your cost of employment, available every quarter as long as your unit remains eligible and the claims are filed correctly.

If you are hiring and growing, this is a benefit worth tracking properly.

Frequently asked questions

No. Employees who already had a UAN before joining your unit do not qualify as new employees under the scheme, regardless of the fact that they are new to your factory. Only employees with no prior UAN at the time of joining are counted.
